Workout Chat - Georgia Thursting

Free spirited songbird Georgia Thursting swung by town for the day, so we grabbed her for a quick workout session and caught up on the world of EPs, NYC and being a vet...

What have you been up to recently?

I’ve been busy recoding my EP and going on holidays! Recording takes a lot longer than you ever anticipate but it’s going well. I’m about 70% done, mainly vocals to go. I’ve been having lots of sessions with my producer and engineer Ben, discussing what works best for each song and messing around with different arrangements - there’s rumors of a triangle solo on the horizon for one of the tunes ;)

As it's our birthday this weekend, if you could have anything for yours what would it be?

For my birthday? Well I just had mine in June and I got what i wanted, a trip to NYC... It was amazing! I’m too lucky, I even got to see the Queen of Soul Aretha in concert. On the other hand, for Lexie’s birthday I would buy you a massive concert in a park in London somewhere with all the kick ass women in music performing on the bill. There’d be a dance stage too, and sports day games hahaha, maybe in a few years?

When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?

There was brief phase of me wanting to be a vet when I was really little, but I soon realised I wouldn’t be able to handle the hands on side like surgery. I think I thought being a vet was about running around all day with cute animals haha. Since watching Titanic and falling in love with the theme tune at the age of 6, it’s all been about singing and music!

What does your future hold?

I like to think it will hold a successful music career… by successful I don’t mean a career like Rihanna's, but more along the lines of those like Laura Marling. A career that lasts, and with each record I want to grow as an artist and performer. I want a core fan base that loves not only my voice but the music I write too!

Part two coming soon...

Sea-Sick!

While we've been kicking back and enjoying the sunshine, super girl Sarah has been battling it out at the English Nationals this weekend! Unfortunately, not only did she manage to catch some waves but also the chicken pox! Sending big love, a get well soon and a big congrats for being such a trouper! True Lexie Girl Grit!

Sarah

Aged just 21, Lexie Girl Sarah has managed to pack more in to her multi tasking, mile a minute days than many twice her age.

Born in London but with her heart in Cornwall (“It’s such a beautiful place to live and there is so much to do here”), Sarah combines a love of long costal runs, gym based workouts and surf instructing with an inability to sit still for longer than a minute and dancing until she drops.

Gaining her dream place the Northern School of Contemporary Dance aged 18, Sarah heard the sea’s siren call and couldn’t resist jumping in the opposite direction, heading off around the world to work as a surf instructor.

Having explored Africa, Indonesia, Central America and Europe and with a hunger for further travel, Sarah has no plans to stop,  “my list of places to go is ever growing!” but for now at least, she has her feet planted in the UK,

“I’ve challenged myself this year to compete on every stop on the UK Pro Surf Tour and the goal is to finish ranked in the top 10, but I’m also currently auditioning for dance companies with the dream of gaining a position as an apprentice dancer!”

Currently pushing herself to achieve in her degree of Surf Science, Sarah is the first to admit that she finds staying still hard,

“Me and sitting still don’t really ever meet in the same sentence and I pretty much pounce on any opportunity …”

With her outrageous laugh, extraordinary hair and sun beam personality we find it hard to believe that anyone can pin this girl down, but in a moment of quite reflection Sarah confides that downtime does exist,

“On the rare occasion, I just like to chill with friends and play the guitar at home. My favorite time of day is sunrise so I always love to be up to watch it”

Princess of Pop (ups)

Move over Kylie, there's a new Princess of Pop!

Coming Soon...

Hayley

23 March 2014

Hayley

Hayley, STOTT Pilates instructor, massage therapist, health model, carer for children with special needs and now a Lexie girl...

Phew we feel tired just reading that list.

Luckily Hayley is naturally energetic “I used to play national league basketball when I was a teenager and I love netball, gymnastics, athletics and dance!”

When she’s not being super active Hayley loves to take it easy, nipping out for food (‘I love Thai and Vietnamese’) or cooking at home where she creates new healthy recipes (‘my favorite at the moment is my Banana Protein Pancakes, perfect for breakfast’).

Hayley’s not just passionate about health though; she’s an avid lover of fashion and shopping, she’s even performed at London fashion week,

“I am always in leggings and love how stylish Lexie's look. And I love all the power mesh details”

At just 24, with a degree in dance performance and having already performed at Wembley Stadium we predict big things for Ms Deane and we’re so excited for her to join our team!

Clarissa

Clarissa describes herself as 'just an ordinary 20-something year old'.
We think she is anything but!

Having joined her first athletic club aged 5 with a passion for running, Clarissa reached national level for athletics, netball and hockey, something she puts down to the support of her parents who became her 'physio, drivers, No.1 fans, PAs & chefs!'. Now with a day job as a geography and sport teacher (she promises us she doesn't wear tweed), Clarissa is still as excited about sport,

"I like to have a go at everything (even if I'm rubbish). In particular, over the last few years, I've grown to really enjoy off-road events and
challenges in inspiring environments; the bigger the landscape, the better!'

It was this love of a challenge and 'have a go' attitude that last year inspired Clarissa to #takeonachallenge,

"In the build up to the Olympics I decided that I wanted to try something new. My father had passed away and I wanted to do something fitting in memory of him. I decided that I would take on a new and different challenge every month over the course of the year.
I used each challenge to raise money for charity in honour of my father who inspired and made me the sports fanatic I am. That was where 'My Year of Ultimate Challenges' was born."

Not only was Clarissa taking on a new challenge every month and dedicating herself to encouraging girls and women to adopt a healthy active lifestyle (through #takeonachallenge) but also completing her teacher training, playing in the England Hockey Premiership League and involved in the National Developement Squad. Phew!

This year, instead of taking some time off, Clarissa has decided to take on the UK's first official Obstacle Racing League, culminating in the world's largest obstacle race, The Rat Race Dirty Weekend, in May (200 obstacles, 20 miles).

"I just love running, jumping, dodging, crawling, diving about, getting muddy, pushing myself further than I ever have.
The key point for me was that I had found a way of pushing myself and fulfilling an aim of encouraging other young girls and women to push themselves too; reaping the benefits of being fitter and healthier in a fun way."

And we thought what better kit to do it in than Lexie!

Clarissa will be blogging and tweeting about her events (in her custom Lexie tee) and encouraging you to have a go at:

www.takeonachallenge.co.uk

And Clarissa's favourite quote?

"Life begins at the end of your comfort zone"

Of course.

Jane

She describes herself as a 'writer, warrior, fitness focused female', belives that 'Freedom lies in being bold' and has an electic music collection that ranges from So Solid Crew to her Dad's folk band Redmayne.

We're pretty sure Jane isn't your average Personal Trainer.

Frequently found in Borough Market 'buying ALL the kale and avocados' or in her local green space 'for fresh air, exercising, peace & a bit of twitching (I'm a closet bird watcher)', Jane's passion lies in 'powerful, athletic, functional stuff!' which she loves to match with yoga to 'balance my ying-yang output'.

"I love sprinting, crawling, jumping, boxing, running up stairs & escalators, climbing, chin ups on the tube, the occasional single leg squat while awaiting the bus. I'm a big fan of bodyweight training, you can do it anywhere and you can always progress!"

Not one to be shy, naturally her favourite piece of kit is our bold Anita Leggings, "being blonde of barnet these are a fitting choice! I love the stand out print"

And the next big chanllenge for this seriously fearless lady?

"Read more. Travel more. Get stronger! Handstand practice, working on my crow pose, more yoga, chin ups, muscle up & sprinting."

Wow.

Georgia

She had The Voice judges on tenterhooks when she performed her blind audition for the hit TV show last year. Progressively making her mark on the gig and festival scene, we managed to nab singer-songwriter Georgia Thursting just before she hits the big time.

Along with tales of sex and seduction, Georgia’s rich soulful voice and jazz influences sound well beyond her twenty years. It something that comes naturally.

“I get this feeling when I’m inspired, I just have to write. I never sit down to try force it. When I’m not in the mood it doesn’t happen - I get frustrated with myself.”

Performing since the age of 12 and taking the stage at Ronnie Scotts and Live at Leeds Festival, Georgia is humble but not afraid to dream and aim high. Perhaps it’s something to do with her fitness fanatic and personal trainer dad who she’s been hitting the boxing studio with?

“I’ve only started but I enjoy it a lot more than the gym. We box, listen to mixes from DJs I’ve seen, and incorporate circuits into our workouts. Who knew skipping could be so tiring!”

Aside from boxing and graduating from Leeds College of Music, the next stop on-route to stardom is finishing and releasing her EP.

“There is so much to think about and do in preparation. My band, producer and I have put so much time and effort into sounding as tight as we can and creating something exciting that I can’t wait to get the ball rolling and get people listening.”

With her rockabilly style, Georgia chooses the Veronica Short as her favorite piece of the Icon collection.

“I used to look at sports clothing and think it looked ridiculous a lot of the time but these shorts, and the whole Lexie range is so fashionable and practical. The shorts design is great and I love the silver panel detail".

Kernow Rollers

An hour long, full contact, female game.

Introducing Lexie's first sponsored team of inspirational women the Kernow Rollers.

So when we were approached by Donna of the Kernow Rollers last year to sponsor her kick ass team of female players we said no.

Er.

Thing was we didn’t actually have any kit yet.  So as soon as we got some in we sent a heap down to Donna and her girls to test out.
The Kernow Rollers are a flat track roller derby team, playing the fast-paced, full-contact, high adrenaline sport in Cornwall.

Founded in 2011 as an inclusive and empowering non-profit sporting organization, the league trains several times a week on & off skates and they welcome anyone regardless of their shape, size or ability.

These girls are as tough as they come and we love their inclusive mindset, opening up sport to all women, we are proud to provide their kit and can't wait to see their team grow and conquer!
